Cool or Kewl

"Foods and beverages in hip, eco packaging that offer innovative tastes and functionality are irresistibly "kewl" to Gen Y"... ew.

Its statements like the one above that inspire a hatred of the skeezy marketeting rep. However, this article about what Gen Y eats and why is interesting.

Our Registry

We're not going to register - living in Belgium makes bringing back gifts impossible and since we'll be moving back to the States but of unknown destination, it simply doesn't make sense to recieve actual things. So aside from asking for homemade items, from blankets to photo albums, songs to sculpture, we're going to ask for donations to our honeymoon. This site seems like a great way to do it.

The Evolution of 10 Food Logos

I love the Morton Salt Girl. You can see her evolution over the ages in Neatorama's review of ten logos. Not so appealing as she ages - Betty Crocker... Others include Aunt Jemima, Quaker Oats and the Gerber baby.

Cupcakes are Adventurous

Here is a sweet little stop motion video by Kristin Lepore. Its ten minutes long and I certainly didn't expect to watch the whole thing but within two minutes I was hooked on the story.

Kid's letters to Obama

Dear President Obama,

I want to tell you hi. Do you work with Santa Claus? Can I meet you in your house? Can I say bye to you after I meet you? And then can I meet you again? And then again after that?

Cat's Reaction is Hilarious

I laughed out loud repeatedly watching this cat's reaction to getting a butt scratchin.

Letter from Bush's daughters to Obama's daughters

Not nearly as revealing as I would have hoped, a little to ... polished. It makes me think it is a bit of PR and not really an open letter from the Bush daughters to Obama's children. But, interestesting to read all the same!

In Honor of Today being a GREAT Tuesday

Why I'm ANGRY and relieved that Bush leaves is put so articulately in this note, with a damningly long list of heartbreaking elements from the past 8 years.

Why I'm HAPPY and relieved that Obama is arriving is told in this short and powerful story by a conductor in Chicago who had an interesting experience with Obama as a senator here.

And lest I get too sentimental, the 44th president is coming!

50 People, 1 Question

Fifty People, One Question: London from Crush + Lovely on Vimeo This is a touching video - full of humor and truth and a lot of raw hope. What would my answer be? Honestly, I feel like the first guy on there - embarrassed by very first thought. But its the truth, so I'd say, "In Tom's arms."

Your Day is More Beautiful Than Mine

I watched this short clip called 'My Day, Yesterday' from a flickr photo stream and loved it. Simple, striking, silent and yet tells a complete story of someone's life. It should come as no surprise then that this guy is the genuius behind the group on Flickr dedicated to recording one's life in 90 second video clips found here.

Wedding DIY Boutonnieres

I really like these do it yourself boutonnieres. So often I find that the options out there are too gender focused - really girly and just an offshoot of the bridal bouquet or on the other end of the spectrum and simply plain, like sprigs of herbs or evergreen boughs. This seems to be a nice in between option, incorporating colors and flowers so as to match the overall wedding theme but without being overpoweringly floral.

I have printed the instructions courtesy of (who else!) Martha Stewart but who knows if it'll actually happen because it is just another thing for that growing list of things to do.

Star Wars Gets Better

I didn't think it was possible to improve on Star Wars but this women's summary of the trilogy manages the miraculous.

Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

Because there was a naked lady on the other side!

This couple brought a chicken suit and cowboy hat to their engagement photo session. These have got to be the best engagement photos I have ever seen. Most of the time, its the same sort of shots of good looking couples oggling each other in love. There are some fun images out there, quirky, arty. But this?! I've never seen anything like this before.

Kobe is Delicious

This is a great viral from Nike. Nike is always a step ahead when it comes to marketing - doing some of the most intelligent, forward thinking marketing to women campaigns over the years. They consistently push the boundaries and here is another perfect example. This ad is funny, bizarre and yet, informative, so that viewers watch an entire 2.5 minute clip with repeated product branding. Broken Ankles! I get it! And to have such a huge name like Kobe is impressive. Having him do such a deadpan and hilarious insurance broker role is even better.

Romantic Outdoorsy Wedding

This couple had the most beautiful wedding - very close to what Tom and I envisioned... but theirs seems more ethereal and intimate while I have a feeling  ours is going to be more a kick ass party. The photograph is courtesy of  http://braedonsblog.com/ His scarf, her flowing dress, its quite pretty. But the story is even better - they walked down a forest path as their aisle to the beach in Santa Barbara where they were wed and then they and all their guests camped at nearby cabins.

Another beautiful element was the song they walked down the aisle to. I am really starting to enjoy bluegrass and wish we could find one for our wedding but so far, nothing. In the meantime, here's a beautiful bluegrass tune - "Down to the River to Pray."

Smarter than the president isn't saying much

at least, its not saying much if we're referring to the soon to be former president Bush. Slate has compiled a list of the top 25 verbal gaffes he has made in his eight year reign. They had an abundance to choose from so this list is especially cringe-worthy.
